About MyLearnedFriend

MyLearnedFriend is a website and blog devoted to discussion and debate about all things legal. It is the creation of Marc Testart, barrister, teacher, poet and sports fan.

MyLearned friends has links and resources on all areas of law including commercial law, family law, personal injury, criminal law, probate, corporations law and many others.

I strive to find the balance between practical and academic. What I mean by this is that I’m interested in engaging with the everyday barrister and solicitor who might find my blog useful for their practice. By the same token I like to read a lot of learned articles and engage with an academic way of thinking. And sometimes of course there’s really no difference between the two 😉

When I reference journal articles often, and unfortunately I cannot provide a hyperlink as the article is often subscription only (often available through lexisnexis or Thomsons); but I spend a bit of time in libraries where it is often worthwhile spending a fair bit of time. I have found the perspective of journal articles to be the difference between success and failure in some of my cases. Most of the time I will try to provide a short summary so you will know if it’s worth a trip to your local university libary or, of course, the Supreme Court library.

Coming soon: ‘Paramount Considerations’, my website specialising in family law.

And also ‘Egg Shell Skull’, my website devoted to negligence and personal injury law.

This site is pitched at the practitioner, but I hope that it can be used by the student, and academic as well. I welcome contribution from the layperson or ‘punter’, but please be clear that this is in no way meant to be used for legal advice. Please refer to my disclaimer.

Otherwise, please enjoy the ride! Your feedback is welcome 🙂
